What are hand tied extensions?

Hand tied extensions are a method that requires no glue, tape or heat to apply. With minimal points of contact, this will put less pressure on your scalp and hair follicles – which means little to no damage, if cared for properly.

These extensions can add length, fullness and/or colour to your everyday look with the benefit of them being less invasive and longer lasting than other hair extension alternatives.

Your extensions will be custom coloured, cut, and styled to keep your hair looking seamless. An added bonus is the wefts are virtually undetectable giving you the luxurious locks you have always dreamed of.

Frequently asked questions

What are hand tied extensions?

Hand Tied Extensions are the hottest, fastest, and least damaging method on the extension market today.

Installation is fast, with equally fast removal. The process involves sewing multiple pieces of hair together and attaching the row to the head using a bead and string. This method uses absolutely no heat, tape, or glue to ensure your hair has little to no damage after using the extensions when combined with the proper hair care.

Can I get a final quote? What is the deposit for booking?

Fill out the Pre-Consultation Form to get the process started. All final quotes are given upon in salon consultation. A deposit of 50% is due at the time of booking. Note the deposit is non-refundable but may be transferable to another service. Speak to the owner of Gloss Studio, Lindsay, for more details if this is the case.

How often should I reinstall?

There are many factors that will determine how often you need to get the extensions moved up. On average, move-ups are required every 4-8 weeks depending on the texture, speed of hair growth, and home care.

Maintenance appointments are generally about 1.5 hours.

With proper care, your new luscious locks can be expected to last about 6-9 months.

How many grams of hair are in a row?

Some refer to extensions in either rows or grams. 1 Row = 55 Grams of hair 2 Rows = 110 Grams of hair 3 Rows = 165 Grams of hair Please note any additional hair that is not used during the installation belongs to the client and can be used at a future date.

What is the hair extension process like?

The experience begins when you fill out the pre-consultation form (also linked at the top of this page).

After determining that extensions are right for you, we will meet in person for a consultation and discuss your lifestyle, maintenance, and hair extension goals.

We will then custom match your colour to the hair using multiple wefts to create a beautiful seamless blend.

Next comes time to install! The actual installation generally takes about 30 minutes per row, with 2 rows being average.

Finally, we will cut your new hair to blend with your natural hair and finish off with a mini tutorial on how to style your new luscious locks.

How do I style my extensions? Can I apply direct heat?

You can wash, blow dry, straighten, curl, or put the hair extensionds up in any updo like you normally would do with your natural hair!

After your first hair extension installation, you will receive a how-to care guide, but below are a couple of key pointers:

  • Make sure you are brushing them every morning, night, and before you go into the shower/pool/water to prevent the extensions from getting tangled.

  • Only use salon exclusive products that are paraben and sulfate free, have no to low alcohol content, and are lightweight but effective (consult your stylist for specific products)

  • Keep your heat settings for hot tools and blow dryers on medium

How often should I wash my hair?

It is recommended to shampoo your hair two to three times a week in the morning or during the day. It is important to remove any build up that occurs from natural oil production, skin sloughing, and styling products in order to maintain a healthy scalp.

If you need to shampoo your hair in the evening, take the time to ensure that your hair is fully dry throughout the extensions before going to sleep as this can cause tangles and issues with your new hair extensions.

Can I bring my own hair?

Unfortunately, no.

I cannot guarantee the quality or know the true source of the extensions and how they will work with your hair unless they are directly purchased through the salon, Gloss Studio.

What price am I looking at? (Price Range)

Initial cost, depending on method of installation, ranges from $250-$1950. Plus, the maintenance appointments range from $150-$400.

For a detailed breakdown, you can book a consultation or fill out the new client extension form.

Do extensions cause damage, breakage or balding?

Reality is, I only have you in my chair for 1-6 hours (depending on the service), and then I do not see you for approximately 6-10 weeks! It’s my job to understand the state of your natural hair and determine how and which extension method is best for you! However, it is your job to take care of them while you are not in my salon chair.

SO, to answer the question, yes it can … but I will give you the guidance and education before leaving the salon to ensure those things do not happen.
